After a whirlwind couple of weeks we think the champions of South America might be a little fatigued for their Club World Cup semi final on Tuesday

Just over a week since their dramatic victory in the final of the Copa Libertadores in Madrid, River Plate play their first game of the Club World Cup.

The South American champions face local side Al-Ain in Tuesday's semi-final and the Buenos Aires outfit are clear favourites to make it through to the final at the weekend.

Latest odds

It has of course been a pretty tumultuous time for River following the cancellation of the second leg of the Libertadores final and its subsequent transfer to Spain.

The Argentines traveled directly from Madrid to the United Arab Emirates last Tuesday where they have been preparing for their first match. bet365 offer Marcelo Gallardo's side at 9/25 (1.36) with Al-Ain priced at 7/1 (8.00) and the draw at 15/4 (4.75).

Team news

Ignacio Scocco missed both legs of the Copa Libertadores final with a muscle injury but the striker should be available for selection.

Forward Rafael Santos Borre also missed the second leg of the final through suspension and the Colombian could come back into the starting line-up, while two of the most senior stars of the team Jonathan Maidana and Leonardo Ponzio could be given a rest.

South American sides always have a short turnaround for the Club World Cup, with the Copa Libertadores final not being contested until the end of November. This year however River have had just a matter of days to prepare for this tournament following one of the most emotionally fraught periods in the recent history of Argentine football.

Having finally managed to beat their eternal rivals Boca Juniors to be crowned continental champions, the pressure is now off River and while that could allow them to play with freedom it could also affect the intensity of their approach.

There is little doubt that Gallardo's side are more talented that their opponents whose squad is made up almost entirely of Emirati players, yet River could be a little fatigued after the exertions of the last two weeks.

Tips and predictions

Under 2.5 goals could well be worthy of consideration at evens (2.00), while the price of 21/20 (2.05) for the second half to be the highest scoring half should also appeal.
