According to a source close to the deal, Amakhosi and Dikwena are yet to agree on a transfer fee for the player to return to Rustenburg.
"He's still a Chiefs player. The two clubs (Chiefs and Stars) have yet to agree on a transfer fee," the source told Goal.
Mkhabela spent the second half of last season on loan at Dikwena where he became a regular under the now departed Cavin Johnson.
The 28-year-old utility player made a total of 13 appearances in all domestic competitions and scored twice.
Goal reported in March that Dikwena were looking to make Mkhabela's stay permanent.
