Real Madrid celebrate 2018-19
There have been relatively few goals at the Bernabeu this season and we think that trend will continue in the first game of the year this weekend

Real Madrid welcome Real Sociedad to the Bernabeu in La Liga on Sunday, with Santiago Solari's men looking for their first win of 2019 after conceding late on to draw 2-2 in their opening game of the year at Villarreal.

Real Sociedad meanwhile head to the Spanish capital on a run of four successive defeats which has seen them sucked into the relegation battle.

Team news

Gareth Bale went off at half-time against Villarreal with a calf problem and is a doubt. Isco came on for the Welshman and is likely to take his place this weekend. Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente and Mariano Diaz are all out.

La Real have a problem at left-back where on-loan Theo Hernandez cannot play against his parent club and Kevin Rodrigues is injured. Goalkeeper Miguel Angel Moya is also a doubt, so Geronimo Rulli is likely to start in goal.

It has been something of a turbulent season for Real Madrid yet Los Blancos still boast the division's best home defensive record.

The European champions have conceded just three goals at the Santiago Bernabeu this season, while they have also been far from prolific in front of their own fans.

Indeed, only two of their eight home La Liga games so far this term have seen over 2.5 goals with Madrid often failing to capitalise on the chances they create.

The visitors on Sunday are out of form and have failed to score in three of their last four away matches, and once more opposing a high scoring game at the Bernabeu seems wise.

Tips and predictions

Under 2.5 goals is priced at an extremely healthy looking 2/1 (3.00), while under 3.5 goals should also be considered at 4/5 (1.80). Real Madrid to win and under 3.5 goals in the game also looks like a strong option at 6/4 (2.50)
