Perth Glory break Wanderers hearts after stunning comeback

Perth Glory have come from behind twice to defeat Western Sydney Wanderers 4-3 in a crazy match that saw six goals scored in 19 minutes at HBF Park on Sunday.

The Wanderers led by two goals as late as the 79th minute but the Glory buoyed by a home crowd managed to overwhelm their young opponents in a seven-minute onslaiught.

Markus Babbel would have been delighted when his side were rewarded for their strong first half showing on 39 minutes when starting debutant Kwame Yeboah bundled Nick Fitzgerald's corner in at the back post.

Glory swung the changes at half time with both Diego Castro and Jason Davidson being called upon and while the team improved in the second half, it was Wanderers who got a second goal first in the 67th minute.

Yeboah, who caused Glory problems all night, made a darting run down the left before squaring the ball for Roly Bonevacia, who smashed the ball in the bottom corner.

But three minutes Castro gave Perth what initially appeared to be a lifeline, prodding the ball in after Neville's long range shot was saved.

Tony Popovic's team were coming home like a steam train but Abraham Majok snared his first Wanderers goal and restored the two-goal advantage on 77 minutes with a clinical finish following more good work from Yeboah.

However the Glory had all the momentum and only 120 seconds later, Ivan Franjic's headed in to reduce the margin back to one after Alex Grant's effort was kept out by Wanderers keeper Nick Suman.

The home fans implored their team to equaliser and they did so on 82 minutes when Andy Keogh sidefooted Franjic's cross into the net.

And the Wanderers capitulation was complete on 86 minutes when captain Brendon Hamill was adjudged to have fouled Keogh in the penalty area and Juande converted the spot kick to send the home crowd crazy.

The win saw Perth Glory go back to six points clear on top of the A-League, ahead of rivals Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC, while Wanderers stay in eighth position and are 10 points adrift of the finals places.
