Pedro: Hazard is Chelsea's star but Morata is very good

Pedro acknowledges that Eden Hazard is “the most important player” at Chelsea and the club’s undisputed “star”, but he also considers Alvaro Morata to be a “very good” option.

The Blues have often relied on their Belgium international forward for attacking inspiration, with his consistency helping to counter the unreliable form of others.

Hazard has stepped up into the role of talisman again this season, contributing seven goals and four assists across 10 Premier League appearances, with his efforts helping to keep Chelsea unbeaten.

Pedro admits that the 27-year-old is a class above many of his team-mates, with it vital that his standards can be maintained if trophy challenges are to be sustained in 2018-19.

The Spaniard told Chelsea TV: “He’s the most important player here. He’s a star for us.

“Eden is playing very good. It’s very good news for us that he’s in very good form.”

While Hazard is Chelsea’s go-to man, Maurizio Sarri has plenty of alternative firepower at his disposal.

Spanish striker Morata falls into that category, with the 26-year-old having rediscovered his spark of late to net five times in his last six appearances.

Pedro added on his fellow countryman: “He has the mentality to score goals and help the team, that’s the best way for him.

“We are happy because he’s a very good striker. He runs a lot and scores goals, now he’s in a very good moment so this is the way for him. Scoring goals is very important for him and the team.”

Chelsea’s midfield options have also been hailed by Pedro, with international performers such as Ross Barkley, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Cesc Fabregas competing for limited starting berths.

“It’s very difficult for Maurizio to choose the right decision but that’s good for the team, it makes us strong on the pitch,” said Pedro.

“Also it’s good to have options. Ruben is in very good form, also Cesc, Jorginho, Kovacic, Barkley, so it’s very good for the team.”

World Cup winner Pedro has been impressive himself this term, with a fourth goal of the season recorded in his most recent outing against Crystal Palace – a game in which Morata scored twice.
