The Buccaneers are eyeing their third consecutive victory, while the Citizens are keen to snap their winless run

Orlando Pirates will welcome Cape Town City in a Premier Soccer League (PSL) encounter at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

The Soweto giants are brimming with confidence having secured a 3-1 victory over SuperSport United at home in their previous league encounter which was played over the weekend.

This was Bucs’ second successive victory having edged out a stubborn Black Leopards side 2-1 in Polokwane, before facing SuperSport.

The two consecutive wins have left Pirates placed third on the league standings having accumulated 10 points from six games. They are three points behind log leaders Bidvest Wits.

Bucs will be without experienced marksman Thamsanqa Gabuza, who is suspended, while goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo and defender Gladwin Shitolo are still are nursing injuries.

Pirates head coach Milutin Sredojevic will be keen to lead to his side to victory over City in order to keep up the early pacesetters Wits and second-placed Bloemfontein Celtic.

Vincent Pule, who netted against SuperSport, has hit the ground running at the Soweto giants and the winger has the ability to inspire his side to victory against the Citizens.

Meanwhile, City are wounded having succumbed to a 4-1 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs at home in their previous league game which was played over the weekend.

The loss extended the Citizens’ winless run to four games in the league having recorded two draws and two defeats to Baroka, and Chiefs.

As a result, City are placed 12th on the league standings having accumulated only five points from five matches. They are three points behind the relegation spot.

The Mother City side will have to find a way to cope without their key central defender Taariq Fielies, who was sent off during the team’s defeat to Chiefs.

City head coach Benedict ‘Benni’ McCarthy will be eager to mastermind a victory over Pirates which would see his side move further away from the relegation zone.

McCarthy could unleash South Africa international Tokelo Rantie against Pirates. The hard-running striker is yet to make his debut for the Citizens since joining the club last month.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and City have clashed in four league matches. Both teams have recorded one win, while two games ended in a draw.

Bucs won 1-0 at home in the first round of the campaign, but the Citizens responded with a 1-0 victory in the return game.
