Nzoia Sugar hold Mathare United

Mathare United failed to get past resilient Nzoia Sugar on Saturday afternoon at Sudi Stadium in the Kenyan Premier League.

The promoted team came into the match knowing victory will be enough to sustain them on top of the table after their 5-2 win against Tusker last weekend, while Mathare also aimed at victory in a bid to go top of the standings.

Wycliffe Kasaya was not given a starting berth after his horrendous show in last week's 3-2 win against Thika United.

The visitors could have gone ahead after 15 minutes but Captain George Owino failed to capitalize on a well taken set-piece, with goalkeeper well beaten.

It was a decent debut for Levis Opiyo who did well to deny Masuta Masita and Elvis Rupia. The hosts could have gotten an opener in the second-half, however wasteful Boniface Omondi failed to convert.

Not even the Daniel Mwaura red card could inspire the hosts to victory as Mathare United held on to get a valuable point.

Both teams have four points from two matches.
