Nyima: Lokosa’s return a big boost for Kano Pillars’ title dreams

The forward is back from his botched trails in Norway and his Sai Masu Gida’s mate feels his return will brighten their title chances

Nwagua Nyima has expressed delight at the return of top scorer Junior Lokosa to the Nigeria Professional Football League side Kano Pillars after his failed trail in Norway.

The 24-year-old almost joined Norwegian outfit, Brann, last week, but his transfer move hit the rock despite his scoring reputation in Nigerian topflight, having netted 19 goals in 21 matches.

Despite being sad over Lokosa’s botched move, Nyima has extolled his Sai Masu Gida’s mate and believes his return will raise the club’s prospect of reclaiming the league diadem this term.

"As a team, we’ve shown that we can fight for the [Nigerian league] title this season," the forward told Goal.

"We’ve had our ups and downs this season but we are still among the top sides and you must give credits to everyone on the team. We have a youthful, talented and experienced players.

“I’ve no worries about our chances because we also have the league top scorer - that’s Lokosa [Junior]. His presence is always a huge motivation for us. He is such a humble guy and a great friend.

“He has been in and out of the country for trails, though I wished him a breakthrough, I am happy that he is back with us. He’s coming back is a big boost for the team and I believe with him around, we are capable of winning the league this season.

"As we are hoping for the league to resume soon, I think the team’s discipline, the hard work will help us make a difference this season. We have all it takes to reclaim the title and I think we are up to the challenge.”

Kano Pillars are third on the standings with 38 points - five behind leaders Lobi Stars and will host northern rivals El Kanemi Warriors when the Nigerian topflight reopens.
