MP Moses Kuria ditches boyhood club Gor Mahia for re-branded Mt Kenya United FC

Nakumatt has now changed name to Mt. Kenya United FC just a month before the league kicks-off.

Gatundtu MP Moses Kuria confirmed on Friday that the club, which struggled financially last season, will now be under new management and has changed name after Francis Mureithi purchased the same.

“Today I am excited to accept the invitation to serve as club patron for Mt Kenya United Football Club after my partner and club chair Francis Mureithi and myself took over the management of the former Nakumatt FC and changed it to its new name. Mt Kenya United is a dream I have held over a long time and this will only be good news for Kenyan football.

“Our immediate focus is to set our sights on winning KPL 2019. We will be beefing up our squad for that mission while also developing junior and women teams. Our home and training venues will be unveiled as soon as we clear with KPL and FKF leadership.

"We are also proud to bring in our two corporate sponsors Mobisave and Eqwipetrol, the first tech companies to sponsor any football club in Kenya.

“At this point I bid farewell to my club of birth and choice, Gor Mahia. Though I set sail to new waters, you will remain in my heart. Mt Kenya United is your new Mashemeji Re-loaded and I look forward to the new Mashemeji Derby re-loaded,” Kuria said in a statement obtained by Goal.

Nakumatt survived the top league by a whisker after beating Ushuru FC in the play-offs.
