Harambee Stars lost a chance to take part in the continental showpiece after the country was stripped of hosting right by Caf

Kenya is crossing her fingers that Confederation of Africa Football will hand Morocco hosting rights for 2018 Africa Nations Championship.

Harambee Stars lost a chance to take part in the continental showpiece after the country was stripped of hosting right by Caf.

But Football Kenya Federation remains optimistic that Stars can still parade in the January competition, though that will depend on the new host to be named by Caf in the coming weeks.

Only three countries, Morocco, Ethiopia and Equatorial Guinea had submitted their interests to host the event after deadline day.

Should Morocco or Equatorial Guinea win the fresh bid, Kenya plans to request Caf for a play-off with either Egypt or Algeria, who finished third and fourth in the North zone during the qualifiers to determine the final slot in the 16-nation championship.

FKF argues that Morocco and Equatorial Guinea shall have the advantage of having qualified by virtue of being the host.

But to avoid the treacherous journey and unnecessary play-off, Caf may simply decide to hand the rights to Ethiopia that did not qualify, to complete the list.

Morocco, Libya, Mauritius, Guinea, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Uganda, Sudan Angola, Namibia and Zambia have qualified for Chan 2018.
