Mngomeni: Orlando Pirates need a player who can lift the team

Goal spoke to Mngomeni, who is hoping to see the Buccaneers finish in the top eight this season

Legendary Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabo Mngomeni says the team is lacking a true leader.

“I don’t know what the mood is like in the camp right now, but I hope they can win a few matches consistently and make the top eight. That’s my wish,” Mngomeni told Goal .

The Buccaneers are currently placed 11th on the league standings - two points behind eighth-placed Platinum Stars with 10 matches left.

Former Pirates captain Mngomeni has called on the players to change their attitude.

“I will say the majority of the players' attitude is not good. I have a problem with that. Another thing is that the team needs someone who will act like a leader," he stressed.

“You know, someone who when he talks they listen and take his advice. Someone that will help them deal with their problems and also take command rather than rely only on instructions from the coach,” Mngomeni said.

A win in Pirates' next league clash away to Free State Stars on April 1st will boost their chances of attaining a top eight berth.
