Rossoneri president Paolo Scaroni admits to being a fan of the enigmatic striker but is reluctant to speculate on a possible deal to bring him back

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be “free to choose his new team”, says AC Milan president Paolo Scaroni, with transfer decisions being left in the hands of others.

A return to San Siro for the former Rossoneri and Inter striker has been mooted on the back of his impressive exploits in MLS with the LA Galaxy.

Despite being 37 years of age, the enigmatic Swede is showing no sign of slowing down and is considered to have more than enough to offer a leading side in Europe.

Ibrahimovic has sought to quash talk regarding a second spell with Milan, with it his intention to remain in America, but speculation continues to build as a number of sides explore the option of landing a proven performer.

Scaroni is among those who would welcome a deal, but he is not pushing for one as he considers Gennaro Gattuso to already have plenty of attacking talent on his books.

“Ibrahimovic will be free to choose his new team,” Scaroni told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“He’s a fantastic player. I love him as a fan for how he combines his height with agility, but I don’t make decisions with regards to transfers.

“Besides, my absolute favourite player is already in our team: Suso. Leonardo and [Paolo] Maldini have been our great success.

“They’ve given stability and competence to a club who, in recent years, had lost direction.”

Galliani

Milan have endured a turbulent period of late, with inconsistent results on the field mirroring the problems being experienced off it.

A successful takeover by Elliott Management Corporation has helped to steady the ship, with it possible that further investment could be welcomed as familiar faces from the club’s past also offer assistance to those now at the helm.

Scaroni added: “There are no negotiations with investors, there aren’t any in sight and neither are we looking for any.

“If a fantastic buyer comes up then who knows, but right now there isn’t scope for one. Gordon Singer carefully monitors investments, purchases and sales.

“[Silvio] Berlusconi calls me from time to time. He has his own ideas and is very decisive with them.

“[Adriano] Galliani is a real Rossoneri fan and a great expert of football. If he speaks then I listen to him.”
