The experienced left-back could play his football elsewhere next season as his future at Naturena looks to be in doubt

With the Soweto giants set to reshuffle the squad in the off-season, defender Tsepo Masilela is expected to leave Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League season.

Masilela looks to be on his way out of Naturena with his agent Mike Makaab admitting that the 33-year-old’s future at Amakhosi remains in doubt.

The former South African international struggled with an ankle injury last term featuring just six times in all competitions.

As his contract with the club expires at the end of the month, Prosport International’s Makaab has revealed that the player looks unlikely to stay with the Glamour Boys.

Moreover, it is reported that the former Maccabi Haifa player is in the United States of America on holiday, but the former Orlando Pirates coach downplayed suggestions that Masilela could join a club in Major League Soccer.

“It looks like he will not be at Chiefs next season,” Makaab said to IOL.

"He is on the holiday in the US. We are not in any talks with any clubs there.”

Should Chiefs not retain the services of the experienced left back, Philani Zulu will be their No.1 option as the player took advantage of Masilela’s injury woes becoming the club's regular left-back during the course of the past season.

Moreover, the former Maritzburg United defender will compete against Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Sibusiso Khumalo for the left-back position next season.

Meanwhile, the Witbank-born player represented Bafana Bafana in three Caf African Cup of Nations tournaments and was also in the 2010 Fifa World Cup squad.

During his peak, he was the country's number one left-back and managed to amass no less than 51 international caps.

Masilela made his name at Benoni United where he made his professional debut and spent most of his career in Europe with clubs in Israel and Spain, playing for the likes of Maccabi Haifa as well as Getafe before returning to the PSL to join the Soweto giants in 2012.

During his tenure with Chiefs, he enjoyed two league triumphs as well as lifted the Nedbank and MTN8 Cups.

With Chiefs still assessing applicants for the vacant coaching job, it is expected that a number of other players such as Keagan Buchanan and Edmore Chirambadare could also leave the club.
