Meselu Abera’s 30th-minute goal for Ethiopia crushed Kenyans hopes of lifting the regional trophy as Ouma continues to wait for an elusive win in the one-week championship.

Abera’s curled a majestic free-kick from 30-meter- yard, at the half-mark, to hand the victors the lead, that they jealously guarded until the final whistle.

This is Abera’s second goal for Ethiopian in the tournament.

The win was a revenge of sort to Ethiopia who lost to Kenya 3-2 in the last meeting before Wednesday’s match.

Kenya remains rooted bottom of the table with only one point picked against defending champions, Tanzania in the second match.

Starlets kicked off the championship on a wrong foot after going down by a solitary goal to Uganda. Starlets will play the last game on Friday when they take on host Rwanda.

Ethiopia went joint top with Uganda on six points. Rwanda are third followed by Tanzania while Kenya are bottom of the log with just a point after three matches.

Kenya’s starting XI: Poline Atieno (GK), Lilian Adera, Vivian Nasaka, Elizabeth Ambogo, Dorcas Sikobe, Cynthia Shilwatso, Mwanalima Adam, Ruth Ingosi, Neddy Atieno, Martha Amunyolete, Esse Akida.
