KPL warning to AFC Leopards: The result from Bandari match will not change

Kenyan Premier League Limited has poured cold water on AFC Leopards request to be awarded maximum points against Bandari.

AFC Leopards have lodged a complaint with the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee over poor officiating during the league match that ended 0-0 at Machakos Stadium.

According to a statement from the club signed by secretary Oscar Igaida, the club is demanding for three points and action to be taken against match official George Mwai, who was the centre referee.

“We have written to KPL because we want action to be taken against referee Mwai and his assistant. They were partisan during the match and denied us a goal from the penalty spot.”

The disputed moment came in the second half when AFC Leopards ‘missed’ a chance from the spot despite video footage showing that the ball had entirely crossed the line from an Alex Orotomal spot-kick.

But KPL, in a quick rejoinder, have said that the referee’s decision is final and that the complainant cannot be granted their wish.

KPL CEO Jack Oguda told Goal that the best they can do is to take action against the match referee and the assistant if found guilty.

“You cannot reverse an outcome of a match that was played for the full 90 minutes. Fifa rules do not allow that and the only way now is for IDCC to take action against match day officials if found guilty.”
