Kenyan Premier League side Vihiga United has rubbished reports indicating the team dropped goalkeeper Barnabas Tiema.
The former AFC Leopards man parted ways with the Western-based side last week after two seasons. Club's assistant coach Francis Xavier has told Goal the keeper came and asked for release and the club had no option but let him go.
“It is a fact, his contract with us had expired, but we had no intention of letting him go, it was going to be extended. However, his heart was elsewhere, so he came and requested for a release and we gave him. Reports indicating that we dropped him are baseless.
“One thing people should know, we cannot keep a player against his will, he will not play his heart out.”
The team is aiming at a top ten finish this season.
