Kotoko open transfer talks with Awal Mohammed

Ghana defender Awal Mohammed is in line for a reunion with Asante Kotoko after training with the club's first team last week ahead of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.

The 28-year-old, who was part of Ghana's squad at the 2015 Afcon, joined Moroccan team Raja Casablanca after the tournament from Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab but terminated his contract mutually in June 2016 and has been out of club.

According to Kotoko management member Thomas Boakye Agyemang, Awal could be handed a short-term deal, depending on few outstanding issues.

"Awal Mohammed is part of our plans but he is under observations currently. He may join us for the season in a short deal but he needs to complete few paperwork," Agyemang told Otec FM.

"The coach watched him and I think he was quite impressed. The rest of the technical members know of his quality because he is our former player so if it comes to signing him, it won't be a bad idea. He has left Kumasi to Accra to work on few documents but he will return soon," he added.

Agyemang also reiterated the club's ambitions to win all competitions they will participate in this term.

"We made it clear to the coach that his target is to win the league as well as any other competitions we will participate in before he was signed. That decision hasn't changed and it also means that management has a role to play to ensure he is successful. We are prepared to provide him everything he will need because the supporters won't accept poor results this season."

Kotoko will open their account with a home game against Liberty Professionals on February 12
