Kerala has been in the news for the wrong reasons in the past week after severe floods across the state left more than 300 people dead and saw more than 10 lakh people moved to relief camps after water entered their homes.
One among those affected was former India striker IM Vijayan who lives in Thrissur district of Kerala, which was one of the worst-affected districts.
The former East Bengal striker saw his house inundated in flood waters, forcing him to abandon his home move to his wife's place.
"The situation is very bad. What to do? My house was flooded and I had to move to my wife's house," Vijayan told Goal.
However, after the flood waters receded, it came to light that a snake was found inside Vijayan's house which has since then been removed without further problems.
Vijayan, who was once India's most sought-after player, has turned out for the likes of Kerala Police, JCT, Mohun Bagan, East Bengal and FC Kochin in a glittering playing career. He has also won the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) Player of the Year award thrice.
Vijayan also serves as the National Observer for football by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports since March last year.
The 49-year-old was also once India's highest goalscorer (32 goals) until Bhaichung Bhutia surpassed his record (now, Sunil Chhetri holds the record).
