Kenya's top striker Jesse Were on target as Zesco United are crowned champions

Jesse Were scored to help Zesco United retain the Zambian Super League title following an emphatic 4-0 victory over at Nchanga Rangers.

Wednesday’s victory at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, in Ndola, sent Nchanga Rangers to the lower division in the process. Zesco United, who bagged the title on the last day in 2017 season, retained the trophy with two games to spare.

Just like Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia, Zesco United won their 17th Zambian Premier League crown after opening a 12-point lead at the summit.

The Team Ya Ziko hit the 80-point mark ahead of Nkana, Green Eagles and Green Buffaloes. Were scored Zesco’s third goal from the spot to add to Mwape Mwelwa’s opener and a second by Solomon Sakala before Marcel Kalonda headed a fourth late in the second half.

The goal saw the Kenyan international take his season tally to 18 with two rounds of matches to go.
