Anthony Akumu has committed himself to Zesco United after penning a two-year contract extension, Goal understands.

Although the Zambian champions are yet to publicize details of the latest move, Goal can reveal that the Kenyan star will now remain at the Ndola-based club until 2019 after agreeing on terms to a new contract.

The initial contract signed by the hard-tackling central midfielder when he joined Zesco United from Sudan's Al Khartoum back in 2016 was set to lapse in December 2017, and there had been some jitters that the former Gor Mahia player was not keen to extend his stay in Zambia, after negotiations dragged on for more than three months.

Now 25, Akumu, who plays alongside captain Victor Wanyama in Harambee Stars midfield, is said to have earned himself a 40 percent increment to his lapsing Sh350, 000 deal.

The development comes a few days after the player won the Zambia league title, and a year after he lifted the domestic cup.

This extension meanwhile, is a big coup to the Team Ya Ziko, considering the player has been linked to moves in Sweden, Denmark and Israel in the past year.
