Both the Soweto giants have not won a major piece of silverware in years, and the Telkom Knockout Cup is as their chance to rectify this mistake

Kaizer Chiefs are on a run of 10 competitive games without a win against Orlando Pirates, but this weekend's clash presents them with another chance to turn the corner.

Giovanni Solinas defended his approach in his first Soweto Derby not so long ago, and he's now expected to come up with a different approach.

With this being the 165th Soweto Derby match between Chiefs and Pirates in 48 years, the significance of it is that it will be a Cup game where there has to be a winner on the day.

Chiefs boast an impressive record against Pirates in the Telkom Knockout Cup, but given their struggles in recent years coupled with the resurgence of Micho Sredojevic's team, football fans should expected nothing but fireworks.

Squads & Team News

Khama Billiat, Kaizer Chiefs, October 2018

Amakhosi head into the encounter in a better pyschological state than before with all their best players available for selection.

Previously, both Leonardo Castro and Khama Billiat had just returned from injury, while Lebogang Manyama was sidelined after surviving a car accident.

This time around, the three attackers are fit and ready to play, something which will ease the pressure on Solinas.

Only Joseph Molangoane and Wiseman Meyiwa will miss the encounter due to injuries.

Molangoane is still recovering form a broken leg, while Meyiwa is in hospital after being involved in a car accident two weeks ago.

Potential Chiefs XI: Khune, Mphahlele, Walusimbi, Ngezana, Cardoso, Katsande, Ntshangase, Zuma, Manyama, Billiat, Castro .

Luvuyo Memela & Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Orlando Pirates Meanwhile, Pirates have confirmed that Vincent Pule will undergo a late fitness test as he had struggling with a minor injury.

The left-footed player has been in scintillating form for the Buccaneers this season, and he even scored the winning goal against Amakhosi just less than a month ago.

Another player who is doubtful for the encounter is Innocent Maela, who will also have to pass a late fitness test to determine his readiness for match.

Sredojevic has also revealed that Augustine Mulenga and Justin Shonga are in the right state of mind to put their failure to qualify for the 2019 Afcon finals behind them.

Potential Pirates XI: Mpontshane, Munetsi, Maela, Jele, Mobara, Mlambo, Motshwari, Lorch, Pule, Shonga, Mulenga.
