John Baraza faults Sofapaka keeper Wycliffe Kasaya after Gor Mahia defeat

Sofapaka coach John Baraza has admitted that the sending off of keeper Wycliffe Kasaya denied his side a chance to get something from Gor Mahia.

A moment of madness from Kasaya saw Batoto ba Mungu reduced to 10-men after the former Mathare United custodian was given his marching orders for a foul inside the box.

Kasaya took time to clear a seemingly harmless back pass and allowed Bernard Ondiek to close the gap, leaving him with no option but bring him down. The referee flashed out a straight red card throwing coach John Baraza to another moment of confusion with little time to make a decision.

Baraza has admitted that keeper Kasaya should have done better with the ball instead, of conceding the penalty. “Kasaya is a top keeper and he knows that his mistake was unwarranted. He had all the acres of space to clear the ball and I don’t know why he took time until that player from Gor Mahia closed in.

“I am very disappointed because at that point, we were pushing them well and could have leveled the scores. When they scored the penalty, it meant we start chasing again and remember, we were nine men against a very good Gor Mahia side. That was the end of us.”

Baraza has however, maintained that his side will fight to finish in second position. “We still have a chance to finish second. We will fight until the end.”
