Chennayin FC head coach John Gregory was highly critical of his side's performance against Mumbai City in the 0-1 defeat at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
The game was decided by Achille Emana, who converted a spot-kick opportunity in the second half to seal three points for his side but Gregory expressed that the scoreline did not reflect the nature of the game.
"The most one-sided game I've seen all season. We missed many chances. The game could have ended in the first half. We had many chances which we didn't take," rued the Chennaiyin coach.
"If we'd used the ball better, we'd have won the game. We gave it away in situations we didn't need to. We gave Mumbai chance to attack us. We were also impatient sometimes. You saw the chances we had, we should have wrapped it up."
The English coach was critical of the Indian Super League (ISL) schedule, revealing that key players like Jeje and Raphael have been playing with injuries.
"We have three games in a week. They're incredibly tired. They've played four games prior to tonight. Jeje and Raphael have been playing with injuries. They've worked exceptionally hard earlier."
"If they would have started tonight, they would have had serious injuries - out for weeks or months. We don't want that situation. You want to rotate the squad and make changes. Five changes meant five opportunities for those guys in the starting XI."
"The schedule of the ISL can destroy them, you have to look after it. It's a long season, I have to try and keep my players fresh and injury free. If you'd seen Jeje yesterday, you wouldn't have expected him to make it on the bench either," Gregory signed off
