Speaking about Atlético Madrid’s contribution to the franchise and how their absence will hurt the team, Goenka said, Atlético Madrid have not contributed a single penny so far. There are two aspects, one is the financial side and another is the technical aspect. As far as financial side is concerned they have not invested a penny till date. So it does not make a difference whether they are present.

We have with us a very competent technical team. Teddy and Ashley bring experience, success and strategy along with vision. You will see as we go along our performance and I hope we can live up to the expectations of the fans. We have not let our fans down over the last three seasons and we will continue to perform well.

The team’s association with La Liga giants Atlético Madrid had grabbed the headlines back in 2014 during the inaugural ISL season and the club had contributed in ATK’ coach and player recruitment process for the first three seasons.

Earlier, a fortnight ago, speaking to the Calcutta-based daily The Telegraph, Goenka had mentioned that for the first three seasons the Madrid side did not invest a single penny in the team and according to their contract they were supposed to contribute from the fourth season as per their 25% stake holding, but they opted not to and pulled out.

ATK have always been a force to reckon in the Indian Super League. They have won 2 out of the first 3 editions of the competition and reached the last four stage in the second season.
