The Indian women’s national football team geared up for their maiden participation in the COTIF tournament in Spain with a win over UD Alzira in a friendly on Monday.

Skipper Bala Devi was on target for India in the 19th minute before Dangmei Grace doubled the lead in the second half (51’). Kamala Devi sealed the win for India with a goal in the dying minutes of the game.

Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan was called into action in the fifth minute of the game to deny the opponents before Bala Devi came close to giving India the lead with an effort that struck the woodwork.

The skipper would eventually get her goal just moments later after being fed by Umapati Devi. The Indian eves created a couple of more openings in the first-half but the scoreline remained at 1-0 at the interval.

Dangmei Grace came close in the second half before she added a second for India in the 51st minute after being set up by Sanju. Kamala Devi then had her effort saved by the opposition goalkeeper in the 56th minute.

The Spanish club pulled one goal back at the hour mark before Kamala Devi settled matters for good with a late goal.

India will open their COTIF campaign against Spanish side Fundación Albacete on Wednesday.
