East Bengal have sacked head coach Khalid Jamil just one year into his tenure. Subhash Bhowmick will continue as the club's technical director and will have a major say in the appointment of Khalid's replacement.
Bhowmick has been given full responsibility to appoint the new head coach. Club secretary Kalyan Majumder said, "Miserable performance by Khalid Jamil. We have already sent a letter to him that we cannot continue with him at the present moment."
The decision to part ways with Jamil was confirmed on Thursday evening by the club. Recently appointed technical director of the club, Subhash Bhowmick, was reportedly unhappy with Jamil's way of work and had publicly expressed his disappointment after the loss to Bengaluru FC in the Super Cup final.
Khalid Jamil was on a two-year contract with East Bengal and it had a clause that allowed both parties to part ways after six months with a notice period of two months.
