The Southerners' head coach was delighted with the result against the Mariners...

Rohit Ramesh-owned Chennai City FC got the better of Sanjoy Sen’s Mohun Bagan on Tuesday evening in a 1-2 result. Strikes from Jean Michael Joachim and Veniamin Shumeiko meant that the visitors bagged full points as they are now placed eighth on the I-League table.

Commenting on the victory, head coach V Soundararajan expressed his joy stating that it was a memorable day for his side. "This was the best match; beating Mohun Bagan feels like being a champion of a World Cup! It was pretty decent to beat them with ten members; it is a wonderful moment in my life," he commented.

Soundararajan mentioned that the Mariners were stronger than his team in every department and hence, he went into the game expecting a point. Further, he labelled the victory to be an extraordinary feat for the South Indian club.

"Mohun Bagan is a very organized side; in each and every department they are far better than us. I felt a 1-1 draw was coming but the team went forward and scored the goal. This is the greatest achievement for us because we are just two years old (in the I-League). It was a historic match and a historic result," he expressed.

He believed that the home side gifted possession very easily which made things easier for his troops.

"Mohun Bagan initially started with the passes but later surrendered the ball to us. We knew they will go for the second goal as playing against ten men was an advantage for them. So we tightened the defence. We took control of the ball, nearly 80 percent of the ball possession. The only reason we won the match is because Mohun Bagan surrendered the ball,’’ he signed off.
