History as Bandari secure KPL second spot after a draw against Sofapaka

Bandari inked another piece of history as the first club from the Coastal region to have claimed the second spot in the Kenyan Premier League.

The Dockers lost two crucial points in a 1-1 draw against Sofapaka in a rescheduled match played on Thursday, but good news for Bernard Mwalala is that no any other opponent behind them can now the 59 point-mark.

Mwalala also remains unbeaten after joining Bandari in July in place of Ken Odhiambo.

The tie was called off following a heavy downpour on Wednesday, but Bandari settled for a point at a waterlogged Mbaraki Sports Complex.

AFC Leopards lose to Tusker on Wednesday means that Bandari will finish second behind Gor Mahia. The Dockers have 59 points and with only two games to spare.

The closest Ingwe can only manage to hit the 57 point-mark if they win all their remaining matches, but they will still be two adrift of Bandari even if they lose all the six-point up for grab.

Kepha Aswani gave the visitors the lead in the 10th minute when his shot hit the target early in the game, but Ugandan William Wadri ensured that the game ended even with his second-half equalizer in the 50th minute.

Bandari will next take on Wazito away before winding up the season with a game against Thika United at home. Sofapaka in the meantime has dates with Nakumatt and Zoo FC.
