Harambee Stars to depart for Ethiopia in two batches

Harambee Stars will depart for Ethiopia in two batches ahead of the Afcon Qualifying first leg encounter with Walya Antelopes on October 10.

Sebastien Migne and his technical bench will leave the country on Saturday with the local players expected to jet out on Sunday.

The foreign legion will link up with the team in Ethiopia for a two day camp on Monday and Tuesday before Stars take on the host on Wednesday.

The delay was orchestrated by the government's slow response in releasing the money for the team’s preparation. Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa claims that the federation has only received seven of the Sh24 million they requested from the Ministry of Sports.

“We always submit our budget to the government early enough, but we only get the money two to three days before the event.

“This, therefore, means that we will have to travel in two batches. The first group will leave on Saturday with the rest the following day, play on Wednesday then depart to Nairobi at night to begin preparation for the return leg on Sunday.”

Kenya just needs 10 points of the available 12 to make it to the 2019 Afcon in Cameroon.

Ghana, Kenya, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone all have three points.
