Gor Mahia FC to face Lobi Stars of Nigeria in first round of Caf Champions League

Gor Mahia will now face Nigerian champions Lobi Stars in the first round of Caf Champions League after advancing on Wednesday.

The Kenyan champions needed penalties to eliminate Malawian giants Nyasa Big Bullets 4-3, (5-4 on aggregate). Gor Mahia had won 1-0 against Nyasa Big Bullets in the first battle but the Malawians forced the tie into penalties after winning by a similar margin at home.

K’Ogalo should thank their keeper Boniface Oluoch, who saved two penalties to help the side progress to the first round of the competition. On the other hand, Lobi Stars recovered at home to beat Cameroon side UMS de Loum 2-0.

Lobi Stars had suffered a 1-0 defeat away to UMS de Loum at the Stade Militaire in Cameroon when the two sides met in the first leg last Wednesday. Jean Abadan scored the only goal of the game as the Cameroonian side held on for the win at home and not conceding a goal in front of their supporters.

The second leg tie between Lobi Stars and UMS de Loum was shifted to the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium as Enugu Rangers had a Caf Confederation Cup clash away with Defence Force FC in Ethiopia.

Lobi Stars needed a win with a two goal margin to guarantee their spot in the next qualification round. The got the lead through Sikiru Alimi in the 14th minute but were unable to add to their lead as they headed to the break.

The Nigerian champions then scored the winner in the 69th minute when Yaya Kone converted a penalty and they held on to book a date with Gor Mahia.
