Former Socceroo Mark Bresciano forms cannabis company

After a stellar playing career that saw him forge out a successful club career in Italy and shine for the Socceroos, Mark Bresciano has now started his own cannabis company called Greenhope.

The business will focus on the medicinal benefits of the drug and is going to operate throughout North America and Europe.

"I invest in real estate and I deal with...cannabis," Bresciano told Gazzetta.

"Yes, that's right, I joined a company with a friend.

"We are working to produce marijuana-based medications within a year. This project gives me the incentive to get up every day

"The company is called Greenhope.  We have identified a site and obtained the necessary licences.

"There is still a long way to go before we can produce cannabis-based drugs.

"For the moment we are going to Canada and the US to learn more, as well as Europe - where there are experts."

The bizarre career move comes after Bresciano revealed he has no desire to get involved in football as anything more than a fan.

"I have lost my passion for the professional game," he said.

"I am just a spectator these days."

Bresciano, now 38, played 83 times for the Socceroos and enjoyed his longest club stint in Italy with Palermo.
