Olamilekan was an integral member of the Eagles B team that got to the final of the Chan competition in Morocco last year. He is glad with the chance and he is looking forward to grabbing the headlines after the game on Tuesday.
“It is always a thing of joy to play for the national team and I am thrilled with this latest call-up,” Olamilekan told Goal.
“I have played for the CHAN Eagles and I am ready to distinguish myself for the main Eagles too if I am given the opportunity to play. It feels great to be recognised for such epoch-making occasion and I am glad to be part it.
“I was surprised when I heard about the invitation because I thought the same set of Eagles that played against Seychelles will be asked to execute it. The game against Liberia might be a mere friendly match but it has presented an opportunity for us to lay claim to the Eagles shirts.”
The former Bayelsa United player helped FC Ifeanyi Ubah to beat Nyasagwang FC of Taraba 5-1 in the Federation Cup Round of 64 tie played on Sunday in Abuja after he featured for the entire duration of the game.
He stated that the Federation Cup tie was timely because it allowed him to gauge his fitness level before joining the Eagles camp and that he is delighted that the Anambra Warriors are in the Round of 32.
“We are through to the Round of 32 of the Federation Cup and the way we played showed that we will be hard to beat by other teams in the competition,” he added.
“I used the game to see how I will cope in a real match situation after the long break but we didn’t give anything away at all in the game. We played a very good game and I enjoyed every bit of it.”
