Dylan Kerr: Gor Mahia FC were second best against Nakumatt on Saturday

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has admitted that he was pleased to manage a draw against Nakumatt in a league match on Saturday.

The Kenyan champions went into the match as favourites and managed to take a deserved lead through Ivorian Ephraim Guikan before the Shoppers pulled level after the break and then forced a 2-2 draw late on at Machakos Stadium.

Nakumatt was yet to win nor score a goal against Gor Mahia in three attempts and the Briton coach was left very upset with the draw. “It was not a good result considering that our overall display was second to best.”

Asked by Goal if the starting eleven was to blame, Kerr responded, “I could use that excuse but I am not that kind of a coach because the result is down to me but whatever the team I play sometimes it doesn’t work.

“I did not want to see that equalizer and cannot blame my goalkeeper for the mistake. He (Odhoji) put up a great show with three amazing saves in the first half but honestly speaking, we deserved to get nothing to say the least the missed chances and poor decisions by my players in good areas.

“That was the best ever game for any of my opponents this season.”

Kerr added, “Maybe other coaches don’t care but I pick a team to play and pick a team to give their best but it was not the case today (Saturday). We must learn, evaluate ourselves and get ready to win on Tuesday.”

The league leaders will face Bandari in another league match on Tuesday.
