The Miners are on the verge of announcing the team’s former player as Bashir Hayford’s replacement

Ghana Premier League giants Ashanti Gold are on the verge of appointing Dreams FC manager C.K Akunnor as the club's new coach.

The Miners are without a head coach following Bashir Hayford’s resignation a fortnight ago, due to a poor run of results. The Obuasi-based club has suffered their worst-ever start to any Ghana Premier League season, lying at the bottom of the log after eleven games with eight points.

They have been able to pick only a point in their last four games including the 1-0 defeat to Hearts of Oak on Saturday.

The club's chief executive officer Kudjo Fiano was spotted in Accra on Monday with Akunnor and Dreams FC owner Kurt Okraku and reports suggest a deal has been finalised and will be announced before the weekend.

Goal understand that Ghana U17 coach Paa Kwesi Fabien was initially tipped for the job but he declined due to the Black Starlets’ participation in the U17 Cup of Nations coming up in Gabon next month.

Former Asante Kotoko coach Michael Osei as well Sarfo Castro, who previously managed Okwahu United, had expressed interest in the vacant position but were rejected.

Akunnor is likely to play his debut game for the Miners against Inter Allies at the weekend.
