Mesut Ozil has often been the subject of much criticism during his time at Arsenal, but it’s hard to argue against that when he is on his game, he can be a difference-maker.
The playmaker had one of those type of performances Sunday against Everton, scoring a goal and adding an assist as Arsenal marched to a 5-2 romp over the Toffees at Goodison Park.
The score was his first of the 2017-18 Premier League season, but while goals are nice for Ozil, his true value lays in his ability to create goals for others.
He did that to perfection on Sunday as Ozil created eight goalscoring chances according to Opta. No player in the Premier League has created more in any game this season.
One of those chances directly resulted in a goal, as Ozil fed Alexandre Lacazette for his 74th minute tally to make it 3-1 Arsenal at the time.
The assist was Ozil’s 43rd since joining the Gunners in 2013. According to Opta, over that span, no other Premier League player has managed more.
