Caf Champions League Group A: Fixtures, kick-off times, TV channels and preview

Esperance and Al Ahly will battle for top spot, while KCCA and Rollers are hoping to keep their hopes alive

Match day five of the 2018 Caf Champions League Group A will see two North African giants clash on Friday.

Tunisian champions Esperance de Tunis are scheduled to welcome Egyptian football powerhouse Al Ahly at the Stade Olympique de Rades in the harbor city of Rades. 

The Blood and Gold are heading into this encounter sitting at the top of the Group A standings having accumulated 10 points from four matches. 

Esperance edged out Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) FC 1-0 in their previous group match at Mandela National Stadium in Uganda over two weeks ago.

The two-time Champions League winners will look to Haythem Jouini, who scored the only goal of the match as they beat KCCA.

Esperance will take on a confident Al Ahly side that secured a 1-0 win over Township Rollers at the National Stadium in Botswana in their previous Group A game late last month.

As a result, the Red Devils are placed second on the Group A log having collected seven points from four games.

Al Ahly, who have won the more Champions League titles (eight) than any other club on the continent, will move to the top of the table if they secure victory in Tunisia.

Morocco international Walid Azaro, who has scored once In the group stage, is the dangerman for the Red Devils and he has the ability to inspire his side to victory in Tunisia.

Esperance and Al Ahly drew 0-0 at the Borg Al Arab Stadium in Egypt on match day one in May 2018. 

Meanwhile, KCCA  are set to host Rollers at the Mandela National Stadium in Uganda's second largest city by population, Kira, on Saturday.

The former Ugandan champions are coming into this match placed fourth on the Group A standings having accumulated three points from four games.

They will be keen to bounce back from their defeat to Esperance and keep their chances of advancing to the knockout stages alive in their debut appearance in the group stage.

Jackson Nunda, who netted against Esperance in Tunisia last month, is a key payer for KCCA and the midfielder will be keen to play an important role in helping his side overcome Rollers.

The Garbage Collectors come up against a wounded Rollers side that succumbed to a narrow defeat to Al Ahly at home.

The defeat left the Botswana champions placed third on the Group A standings having collected three points from four games. 

Rollers, who are also making their maiden appearance in the group stages, need to secure a win against KCCA in order to boost their chances of reaching the quarter-finals.

Lemponye Tshireletso has netted once in the group stages for Rollers and the attacking midfielder will be hoping to inspire the Blues to victory in Uganda.

Rollers beat KCCA 1-0 at the National Stadium in Botswana on match day one two months ago.
