BREAKING: Chennaiyin FC part ways with head coach Marco Materazzi

The former World Cup winner and Indian Super League (ISL) winner left by mutual consent...

Chennaiyin FC have decided to part ways with long standing manager Marco Materazzi following a disappointing season in the recently concluded ISL.

The Italian is the longest serving manager in charge of the same team, having been at the helm for all three seasons of the premier tournament.

In the first season, the World Cup winner served the dual role of player-manager and managed to guide his team to the semi-finals following a top place finish during the league stages but were unfortunately edged out by Kerala Blasters

The second season culminated in Chennaiyin FC finally winning the much vaunted league with the former Inter Milan defender having given up his playing role.

However, the last season was a blip on his glorious record as Chennaiyin failed to qualify for the knockout stages for the first time ever and was ultimately the reason the management decided to do way with him.

"These past three seasons with Chennaiyin has been a great adventure on a sports and human level. I leave the club today grateful to have been given the opportunity to contribute in my own modest way to the shaping of India as a football nation and most of all grateful to have lived firsthand the birth and growth of Chennaiyin FC. Incredible team, incredible fans, incredible India!," said the 43 year old.

The club said that the split was amicable and they are on the lookout for a new manager.
