Boateng eyeing second Ghana goal against Iceland after Japan effort

The Levante man is hoping to score again for the Black Stars after finding the back of the net on his debut

Ghana new boy Emmanuel Boateng is looking to up his goals tally when he lines up for the national team for the second time on Thursday. 

The Levante striker was on target on his debut on Wednesday as the Black Stars dispatched World Cup-bound Japan 2-0 in an exhibition game on Wednesday. 

Ahead of Thursday's meeting with Iceland, also World-bound, the 22-year-old says finding the back of the net again is all he has on his mind. 

“As a striker, all you think about always is to score goals," Boateng told 442gh.

"When going into any game, you don’t think about defending but to score and win.

“I’m happy I scored on my Black Stars debut and I’ll score again against Iceland if I get the chance.

“I believe with the help of my team mates, I’ll score again.”

The youngster also shed light on the importance of his strike against the Samurai Blue.

“It means a lot to me as a player," said, Boateng.

"I will give thanks to God and to my team mates for the support.

“I’m really happy and excited for such a feat. 

"Scoring my first goal in my first national team game is really exciting."

It has been a season to remember for Boateng, who equally made headlines at club level. 

In his first season in the Spanish La Liga, the Accra-born scored six times in 25 matches involving 10 starts for Levante. 

His goals include a magnificent hat-trick against champions Barcelona and an equaliser against Real Madrid.
