Betting Tips for Today: Portsmouth can continue their impressive start against Shrewsbury

Portsmouth finished five points away from a play-off spot in League One last season but Kenny Jackett's side have made an impressive start in the new campaign.

So far Pompey have dropped just two points in the league. Five wins from six games is a fantastic opening few weeks and the south coast club will be dreaming of a return to the Championship next term.

888Sport make Saturday's hosts 23/25 (1.92) to pick up another three points as they host a Shrewsbury Town side that surprised a lot of punters with their displays last term.

Despite finishing third, the Shrews lost out to Rotherham in extra time at Wembley. Manager Paul Hurst left for Ipswich in the summer and they look unlikely to be challenging for a play-off spot based on their early season form this time around.

Yet to win a game, the visitors have picked up just three points so far, two of those via goalless draws. Another stalemate is 47/20 (3.35) with an away win priced at 3/1 (4.0).

While they've not been outclassed - Shrewsbury are yet to lose a game by more than a one-goal margin - John Askey's men face a step up in opposition here and it makes sense to oppose them given the current odds.

Despite the Shrews' poor form, none of the teams they've faced thus far sit higher than seventh so a trip to Fratton Park to take on a team that already have 16 points on the board is a very tough ask.

One of the big positives for Portsmouth backers so far has been the their goal scoring prowess. Ronan Curtis arrived from Derry City and has hit the ground running, netting five times, while Jamal Lowe has already amassed two thirds of his six goals from last season.

With that in mind the 23/25 (1.92) available with 888Sport about a home win looks a great option.

While Shrewsbury had a brilliant campaign last season they've yet to demonstrate anything close to that level of performance under their new manager. They could be the next team to fall short against a Portsmouth side who could well continue their climb back up the divisions given their dominant start.
