Benzia and Enyeama shine as Lille fight back to earn draw

Algeria attacker Yassine Benzia scored late in the second half and Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama saved a penalty to help Lille salvage a 1-1 draw at Toulouse in a Ligue 1 clash played on Sunday.

The 22-year-old finished off Eder’s effort after a goalmouth scramble, having come off the bench in the dying minutes of the encounter played at Stadium Municipal.

Christopher Jullien had given Les Pitchouns a 30th minute lead via a powerful header past the Super Eagles’ veteran goalkeeper Enyeama in the Lille goals.

The two would soon square off again minutes later but Enyeama came out on top this time, denying the towering defender as he looked to double his side's lead with another header from close range.

Enyeama’s heroics continued into the second half as he also expertly denied Martin Braithwaite from the penalty spot shortly after Benzia’s equalizer.

The African duo, alongside Cameroonian Ibrahim Amadou all played critical roles in helping Lille earn this precious point in their battle against the drop.

The strike was Benzia’s third of the campaign and also his third for the year as he looks to force his way back into the Desert Warriors’ squad after missing out on the recent Nations Cup.

Enyeama, on the other hand, has called his time on his Super Eagles career.
