Lionel Messi Barcelona 2018-19
Barca's number 10 has been in strong scoring form and boasts a great scoring record against Los Rojiblancos which he is likely to add to on Saturday

La Liga's top scorer Lionel Messi will look to fire Barcelona to a win this weekend, with three points for Ernesto Valverde's side likely to all but mathematically seal another league title.

The Blaugrana are eight points clear of visitors Atletico Madrid, with Messi enjoying an excpetional scoring run.

The Argentine has netted nine times in Barca's last five games and Messi has outscored several entire teams so far in La Liga this season with his tally of 32 goals.

Latest odds

bet365 offer Messi at 4/5 (1.80) to score at anytime on Saturday and that seems a price well worthy of consideration given his form. The 31-year-old managed the only goal of the game the last time these sides met at the Camp Nou, his 28th strike against Atletico Madrid in all competitions.

Messi's last brace against Los Rojiblancos came back in 2012 and he is offered at 9/2 (4.50) to score two or more, while the Argentina international can be backed at 14/1 (15.00) to score a hat-trick, something he has not managed in this fixture since 2011.

Can Griezmann compete?

Messi leads the anytime scorers market ahead of Luis Suarez at 6/5 (2.20) and Antoine Griezmann at 7/4 (2.75) .

The Frenchman is Atletico's top scorer this season and is likely to be their main threat at the Camp Nou, with Alvaro Morata and Diego Costa both stuggling with injuries.

Griezmann has long-since wanted to be considered as one of the world's best and to do so he will need to consistently produce in the biggest games of the season. The former Real Sociedad forward ended a seven match goalless streak against Girona on Tuesday with a well-taken late strike and will be desperate to score his first goal for Los Rojiblancos at the Camp Nou.

Griezmann scored his only brace in this fixture back in 2016 in a Champions League clash at the Estadio Vicente Calderon and the 28-year-old can be backed at 10/1 (11.00) to score twice on saturday.

Tips and predictions

The price of 4/5 (1.80) for Messi to score at anytime is probably too good to ignore, given not only his form but also his exceptional record against the side from the capital. Messi is a constant goal threat given his unique ability as well as his status as designated free-kick and penalty taker.

This could be quite a tight game however and as such backing a centre-back to get on the scoresheet potentially from a set piece could also be of interest. Diego Godin and Gerard Pique are both offered at 9/1 (10.00) to score at anytime.
