Bale reaches Madrid century to join Beckham and Lineker in elite group

Gareth Bale will make his 100th La Liga appearance for Real Madrid against Barcelona, placing him alongside David Beckham and Gary Lineker as only the third British player to reach that landmark.

The Wales international moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham in the summer of 2013 in a record-breaking transfer.

He has endured his struggles with injuries at times while in the Spanish capital, but also has been a regular when fit and available.

Bale is now set to reach his century, having been named in Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up for a Clasico clash with Barca.

In his 99 appearances to date, Bale has netted 54 goals.

That return has already lifted him above Beckham and Lineker in the scoring stakes, with the former grabbing 13 La Liga efforts for Madrid and the latter 42 for Barca.

Bale is also closing in on another notable landmark in terms of his appearances in all competitions.

Having been selected from the start on Sunday, he now could see his 150th outing come Wednesday against Deportivo La Coruna.
