Three goals in the final 22 minutes of last week's first leg salvaged a 3-2 win for Athletic in Athens when it looked like a shock against Panathinaikos was on the cards.
Those who had followed the fortunes of the Basque outfit on the road in Europe, however, may not have been surprised to find them 2-0 down, with Athletic's away form far from impressive.
The win in Athens was only their second win in the last eight away matches in the Europa League, although at home they remain extremely strong. The Bilbao outfit have won 10 of their last 13 Europa League matches at San Mames, with their only defeat in that time coming in April 2016 against a Sevilla side who would go on to win the trophy.
Panathinaikos, for their part, may be regulars in this tournament yet their away record is also far from impressive with the Greek side winning just three of their last 16 matches on the road in the Europa League.
To have any hope of making it through to the group stages, Mario Ouzonidis' side must claim a win in the Basque Country and bet365 offer them at 8/1 (9.00) with the hosts priced at 3/10 (1.30) and the draw available at 9/2 (5.50).
Generally, matches at San Mames tend to produce goals and over 2.5 goals has paid out in seven of Athletic's last 11 home European games. A repeat is offered at just 8/13 (1.62) but if we combined that selection with a home win, the price rises to a more tempting 10/11 (1.91).
The Basques have won their last four home matches in the Europea Leage all of which have seen over 2.5 goals. Panathinaikos, meanwhile, played six matches in the group stages of last season's tournament and conceded at least two goals in every game they contested, with the Greeks now surely struggle containing an Athletic side with an excellent scoring record at home.
