Everything you need to know ahead of the Premier League clash at Selhurst Park on Thursday

Champions League-chasing Arsenal face another key game in their festive fixture list on Thursday when they travel to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace.

The Gunners are currently sixth in the table, three points behind Tottenham and four away from Liverpool in fourth spot as they seek victory over Roy Hodgson's improved side.

Arsenal were booed off at Selhurst Park last season as they lost 3-0 and saw their European aspirations dissipate amidst away supporters singing 'You're not fit to wear the shirt.'

"What we want is to stop conceding goals, stop missing chances, but as well I want them all to continue to play with the same spirit, the same determination and the same love of the game,"  said Arsene Wenger ahead of the game.

The 3-3 draw against Liverpool last week was a further example of Arsenal's strength of character but it once again showcased their defensive vulnerabilities as they were hit on the counter attack by Jurgen Klopp's men - something they'll be desperate to avoid on Thursday.

Nacho Monreal has been ruled out after sustaining an inury against Liverpool, while Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey are also sidelined.

"Monreal I would say hopefully 10 days, Giroud as I said before is four to six weeks, but he is a quick healer so I am hopeful he will be less. Ramsey should be back at the beginning of January," confirmed Wenger.

Spanish midfield maestro Santi Cazorla remains a long-term absentee with an Achilles injury.

Arsenal have no players suspended for this game.

Wenger is likely to stick with the bulk of the team that drew against Liverpool last week, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Hector Bellerin expected to make up the defence.

Jack Wilshere will continue his partnership with Granit Xhaka in the centre of midfield due to Aaron Ramsey's absence, while Alex Iwobi could support the triumvirate of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette.

The decision over who will play left-back is understood to be related to which formation the Gunners deploy, with Maitland-Niles favoured over Sead Kolasinac when Wenger fields four at the back.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson has taken 18 points from 12 games to guide the Eagles to 16th place, just two points above the relegation zone after taking over with the side bottom of the table.

Christian Benteke returns for the game against Arsenal after he was suspended for the game with Swansea, but Mamadou Sakho misses out with a calf strain and Joel Ward is also a doubt with a groin problem.

James McArthur is the club's top scorer with 4 goals to his name so far this season.

  • Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in all three of their Premier League London derbies this season – they haven’t gone four London derbies without conceding since February 1999.
