With his Liberian striker Forkey Doe absent from the Red Giants' squad for their Super League match against Sarawak, Selangor head coach Maniam Pachaiappan is set to make the surprising decision to field the underperforming Afiq Azmi at the start.
When met by Goal during their training in Kuching on Monday, Maniam told us that the former Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan player is set to take Doe's place.
Ever since rejoining Selangor from Negeri Sembilan at the start of the season, the 28-year old forward has only made three league appearances, all as late substitutions, and struggled to reach his old form.
Maniam also told us that East Timorese attacker Juliano Mineiro, who earlier had faced an injury concern, should be able to start as well.
"He'd hurt his groin four days ago. We told him to take it easy, but he insisted on working hard during training.
"But we've monitored his condition, and he should be okay to play tomorrow (Tuesday)," explained Maniam.
Another team member that will also start the match is 20-year old winger Kannan Kalaiselvan, the head coach told us.
The youngster has been promoted to the senior team at the start of the season, just like startlet Syahmi Safari and a few other of his former Selangor youth teammates. But unlike Syahmi who made instant impact at the side, Kannan took awhile to make regular appearances.
However, the winger has been handed back-to-back starts in their two most recent matches; their 2-2 draw against Pahang and 1-0 defeat to T-Team.
