- This is Algeria’s 17th participation in the African Cup of Nations; their solitary title dates back to 1990, it was on home soil. They haven’t reached the final since then.
- This is Tunisia’s 18th AFCON participation, a tally only bettered by Egypt (23), Ivory Coast (22) and Ghana (21).
- Tunisia’s only AFCON title dates back to 2004, as hosts. Since then, they haven’t progressed further than the quarter-finals.
- The only previous AFCON encounter between Algeria and Tunisia saw the latter win 1-0 in the 2013 group stages, courtesy of a 91st minute strike by Youssef Msakni.
-Algeria manager George Leekens is taking charge at his second AFCON after leading Tunisia to the quarter-finals in 2015.
- This is Henryk Kasperczak’s eighth AFCON as manager. The Tunisia boss was already in charge of the Eagles of Carthage in 1996 (finalists) and 1998 (quarter-finalists).
-Algeria have failed to keep a clean sheet in 10 of their last 11 AFCON matches and have only claimed victories in two of their last 10 games in the competition (D2 L6).
- Tunisia however have managed only one clean sheet across their last 13 AFCON matches and have recorded only one win in their most recent six attempts in the African Cup of Nations (L3 D3).
- Riyad Mahrez scored a brace for Algeria in their 2-2 draw with Zimbabwe; the Leicester City man has now been directly involved in four of the last five goals recorded by Algeria in the African Cup of Nations (three scored and an assist).
-Ahmed Akaichi has scored in three of his last four AFCON appearances for Tunisia; three of the last four goals recorded by Tunisia in the competition have been converted by Akaichi.
