AFC Leopards 0-2 Sharks: More trouble for stuttering Ingwe

Goals from Ebrimma Sanneh and Mathew Odongo were enough to hand AFC Leopards a sixth defeat in nine league matches on Saturday.

Ingwe came into the match against Kariobangi Sharks desperate for maximum points after winning none of their initial eight matches, and just one out of the twelve matches played in all competitions. Sharks had collected sixteen points from their last eight matches, but had drawn their last three matches.

In early 20 minutes, both sides desperately tried to outdo each other, but still could not get an opener as the defenders cleared any danger posed by the strikers. In the 25th minute, Ingwe were awarded a free-kick in a promising position, unfortunately they failed to capitalize on it. As the first half came to a close, it was obvious Leopards lacked finesse especially in the final third, with Sharks unlucky not to have gone ahead.

After the break, Ingwe came roaring, trying to get an early goal to destabilize their opponents. Victor Oburu did well to lash on a well weighed pass in the 46th minute, but Pascal Ogweno was there to clear the danger.

Sharks looked comfortable on the ball, pushing for an opener anytime they had the ball, and the tactic worked in the 51st minute. Eli Asieche won the ball in the midfield, passed it to Mathew Odongo, who did well to set up Ebrimmah Sanneh, and the striker made no mistake.

The goal put Ingwe into so much pressure considering they needed something positive from the match. In the 69th minute, Ingwe won a free kick in a dangerous position. Robinson Kamura delivered but goalkeeper Jeff Oyemba cleared the danger. In the 71st minute, the hosts were awarded another set piece, but this time, the ex-Mathare United man did not get the ball past the wall.

Five minutes later the visitors doubled the advantage courtesy of Odongo. A corner was taken, and the ball fell to the forward whose shot was deflected past Otieno. The result takes Sharks to 25 points, three behind current leaders Tusker FC, who will play Bandari on Sunday as Ingwe continue sinking.
