As exclusively revealed by Goal on Tuesday, AFC Leopards have failed in their bid to sign Malian striker Ismaila Diarra.
The striker has opted to extend his stay at Rayon Sports despite penning another deal at the Den. Ingwe official Asava Kadima has confirmed to Goal that the striker will not turn out for the side but they will engage their lawyers and take up the matter with Fifa.
“It is very unfortunate that Diarra has opted to extend his stay at Rayon Sports despite signing a genuine contract with us. We are not going to stop there because we feel cheated and will make sure the player gets punished for double signing. We will engage our lawyers and make sure that the case is reported to Fifa.”
On Tuesday, Goal reported that Diarra’s move to the Den was hanging in the balance after it emerged that the player was considering extending his contract with Rayon Sports. Club’s co-chairman Dan Mule revealed that reports from Rwanda were not encouraging and AFC Leopards might report the player to Fifa if he does not honor signed contract with Leopards.
“We expected him (Diarra), to arrive in the country tomorrow (Wednesday) but things are not as smooth as we expected. It seems like he is torn between joining us and extending his contract with current club, a move which will push us to report him to Fifa, and an appropriate action be taken against him because he had signed with us.
“His contract with Rayon Sports has expired and we are now waiting, hoping that he will make the right decision by honoring the contract he signed with us.”
Diarra is among players signed by coach Ivan Minnaert during the June transfer window.
