Koops: I asked to be replaced at AFC Leopards

Dutchman reveals to Goal that he made the decision to step down as head coach of Ingwe and take over different role

Former AFC Leopards head coach Jan Koops says it was his decision to leave the post and accept Technical Director's position.

Koops was elevated to the new post after the club appointed former Rayon Sports tactician Ivan Jacky Minnaert on Thursday.

But Koops told Goal on Saturday that the AFC Leopards management were in need of a head coach, who would be tied down for two years something he was not ready for.

"I had made it clear that I wanted to be head coach for only one year and that is when the management got someone else and elevated me to the new position."

He added: "There is no problem at all with the arrangement and I am quite comfortable with it. I want to concentrate on building a U-19 side so that every season we don't have to spend millions buying new players. Our sponsors are very supportive of this."
