Tanzania registered their second victory in on-going Cecafa tournament after they edged out Rwanda 2-1 in a Group ‘A’ match played on Tuesday.
Khamis Juma scored a double for the winners with Jacques Tuyisenge pulling one for the losers late in the match. The first few minutes of the match was a balanced affair with each side giving as much as they got.
In the 10th minute, Elias Maguri’s shot went over the bar as Tanzania appeared to be getting an upper hand in the match. But the Rwandese could not hold on for longer as Khamis Juma sent the Rwandan goalkeeper the wrong way with a well executed shot just at the edge of the box.
The goal seems to have woken up the Rwandese with Ernest Sugira threatening the Tanzanian backline from time to time. At the half hour mark, his shot proved too wide as Tanzania survived their first scare in the match.
Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza attempt in the 34th minute earned the Rwandese their first corner of the match. The Rwandese completed the first half on a high with Haruba Niyonzima’s hard shot failing to find someone as it went past the Tanzanian goal.
The Rwandese maintained the pressure going into the second half but forgot to cover their backs. This allowed Juma to score his second of the match in the 78th minute after Rwandese keeper Olivier Kwizera failed to save a harmless looking shot.
The Rwandese were however, lucky to pull one back through Jacques Tuyisenge.
